Vasovasostomy (Refertilization) - Information
But now you would like to have children . . .
Years ago you decided to have a vasectomy (sterilization)? But now your life circumstances have changed and your wish to have children lingers in the air again?
In male patients, who desire to have children after sterilization (vasectomy), there are now good chances that thanks to modern microsurgical techniques and suture materials, the potency can be revived, meaning that the vas deferens (transporting the sperm out of the testes) becomes functional again.
The internationally recognized standard method for this procedure is called vasovasostomy (refertilization). The procedure is performed under general anesthesia and takes two small incisions in the scrotum. Under the surgical microscope, the conductor ends of the seeds are exposed and joined together again in a two-layer technology with fine sutures.
Surgery
The surgery takes about two hours. The surgery is usually performed on an outpatient basis. If desired or medically necessary, there is also the possibility of a follow-stay at the hospital.
After the surgery
You should refrain for about 10 days on bathing, swimming, or saunas. However, you may shower after 2 to 3 days. Heavy physical exertion or exercise should be avoided for about four weeks to.
Due to improved surgical techniques, the success rates of vasovasostomy or refertilization could be improved in recent years. Accordint to today's figures, if the surgery is performed by experienced surgeons, the sperm count is again detectable in the semen in about 80-95% of the men. The rate of pregnancy after surgery increases, the shorter refertilization after vasectomy is performed. It ranges between 50 and 70%.
