Patient Forums

The "First Cologne Patient Forum Back Pain” was held on January 17, 2014, at the Studio Dumont. The topic "Sense and Nonsense of Spinal Surgery" attracted about 150 interested visitors. Christopher Platt, a former 1Live presenter and coach for moderators, divertingly moderated the evening.

The first speaker was Dr. Gereon Schiffer, Chief Physician of the Department of Trauma, Hand Surgery, and Orthopedics at the Vinzenz-Palotti-Hospital Bensberg, who presented an overview on the treatment of spinal injuries with focus on osteoporotic vertebral fractures. The presentation by Dr. Timmo Koy, Chief Physician of the Spinal Center in the KLINIK am RING, focused on the treatment of degenerative diseases of the lumbar spine. The lectures emphasized in particular the question of when and when not an operation on the spine should be considered. The presentation led to an interesting and intensive discussion between the attending patients with back pain and their relatives. The varying feedback from the audience was interesting and positive, which prompts a second Cologne Patient Forum Back Pain in the coming year
